Flip the Script

Your nonprofit has failed your community.
Never in a million years will people say,
You really care about those you serve
It’s simply not true, the reality is
Your nonprofit has been an abysmal disappointment.
Believing that
You make a difference
Is destructive. We all know that
Looking out for #1
Is always best.
Working together, for the greater good, with hopefulness
Is a ridiculous idea.
Giving up on your future
Will be a challenging task, but you should do it anyway.
Making the community you serve better because of the work you do
Isn’t what you’ll be remembered for.
Abandoning hope
Is how you approach adversity.
All-hands-on-deck
Isn’t going to happen.
We all know that
Most think you are fated for failure.
It’s probably true,
Unless you decide to flip the script.
(Now read this poem, line by line, from the bottom up—
because perspective changes everything.)
